Site Technician

April 2025

Are you a practical DIY enthusiast, who loves to make and mend, to fix things and make things tidy and well organised?

We are looking for a hands-on person to maintain the farm and ensure the smooth running and safety of all aspects of the farm’s physical facilities. This includes taking ownership of the physical elements of the Aldermoor Community Farm site, including related health and safety, managing routine services, organising our tools and resources, dealing with maintenance of the site and fixing issues that arise.

It is a part time role – 9 hours per week. We are hoping the site technician will work from 9am til 12 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but we are open to other work patterns.

We have a culture of volunteers taking part in the running of the farm, so managing routine services means working with staff/volunteers to ensure there are clear and safe procedures to follow for routine tasks. You won’t have to do all the chores yourself, just make sure everything is in place for them to be done well.

Responsibilities

• To maintain the fabric of the site through general repairs and maintenance, including for example, animal houses, polytunnels, gates and fences, shop/barn furniture, and irrigation.

• To work within the boundaries of own skills and competence.

• To ensure the site is safe by adhering to the organisation’s safety policies, creating and maintaining risk assessments and implementing safety procedures.

• To facilitate the delivery of routine tasks by the volunteers (e.g. filling water containers, emptying the compost toilet and wastewater etc.).

• To manage the workshop space, storage of tools and ironmongery spares.

• To provide assistance in setting up for events and workshops.

• To have oversight of and liaise with contractors who are required on site for specific projects.
